Regrettably, the district foundation chairs who were scheduled to present had to cancel due to scheduling they couldn’t control. We are hopeful we will be able to reschedule them in the new year.
Announcements:
Thank you to Team 4 for Breakfast.
Signup sheets being circulated: Festival of Trees & off-site meeting
Carol Wasylik has some (50-60) of her quilts up at the Festival of Trees. ½ of the proceeds of any sales will be donated to Haying in the 30’s.
Off-site Meeting Nov 29th : We will be in MEAD 112 for Breakfast - in the main door of the MEAD Building and to the right just outside of the Agricultural Sciences Offices. Please arrive around 6:45 if you are able so that we have lots of time for the tour.
November is Foundation Month: As an incentive to encourage our club members to donate to the Rotary Foundation, we have a matching project set up for the months of October and November. If you donate up to $100 to the foundation in the months of October or November, the club will match the donation, dollar for dollar, in your name. If you donate more than $100, you may qualify for a proportionate match for the amount over $100 if not everyone takes advantage of the matching program. We have budgeted $3000 for this project and it will all be used to match donations. You can either give the cheque to Eugene to send in, or you can print your donation receipt if you donate online and provide him with a copy - either way, it needs to be to Eugene by December 6th to qualify. Regular monthly donations qualify but you must give Eugene the receipt to confirm the amount.
Casino Dates - Our casino dates are May 17&18 which is the Friday and Saturday of the long weekend in May. Craig would like to know if you are able to help so he at least has some assurance we will be able to make the dates. If we decline the dates, we are likely looking at another three and a half years to get a casino date, so if you can commit to helping, that would be great.
Presentation on District Conference_Laurel, Erwin, Rebekah
Laurel: Inspired by speaker with the theme of sustainability & empowerment. Enjoyed connecting with Rotarians, Rebekah, Erwin, and a number of people from Lloyd Rotary Clubs. Goal is to work on our Vermilion Rotary website to update it and for it to be more relevant. To tell our stories that we are People of Action.
Erwin: There is always something to take-away. To allow people to play to their strengths-what they can give and people will know what they need (water buffalo). We must continue with the End Polio Now campaign. Erwin went to a session on Guatemala-as this country has special meaning for him. Eye doctors were sponsored by Rotary Club of Edmonton West to go to Guatemala. The days were very long and hard, but everyone had to do whatever job was needing to be done to serve the project.
Rebekah: Has gone to last three district conferences and feels sad that more people are not going to get inspired and connect. Together we… do a lot of really great thing, like serve our community. Want to encourage more to go to conferences. (Didn’t have time for next year’s conference video-People of Action).
Visit to Border city Rotary Club: One of the big take aways from district conference from all three of us was the fellowship and friendship you develop with other clubs in the area. In the hopes of fostering and developing that friendship, we are planning a visit to the Border City Rotary club on January 29th. We will have no regular meeting that week, and instead we will travel on the Tuesday morning to Lloydminster to join their regular meeting. They seemed very excited with the possibility of hosting us, and it is my hope that many of you will be able to join us in attending.
District Conference next year will be held in Grande Prairie on October 3rd-5th. Registration is now open (https://conference5370-2019.ca/) and the early bird registration deadline is November 30th. But don’t worry - there’s still lots of time to sign up afterwards if you are not able to commit this early.
