Project Review:  Bartending: Chair-Loretta

The bartending began when we were invited by the Chamber of Commerce to bartend for the Small Business Awards.  We have done a few weddings now and are on the wedding list of groups that will bartend.

Who:  Bartending requires one of the servers to have their Pro-serve.  Loretta and Dawn have their Pro-serve and have been at the events. There are also a number of other Rotarians that have their pro-serve certificate.  Bartending requires minimal involvement from the club-from 2-8 people.

Fundraising:  We ask for a donation from the wedding/event which is dependent on #’s.  Minimum donation of $300.

Hours Involved:  Dependent on the event.  Generally from pre-supper to close.

Viability:  Yes, this is a viable project for the club.  Fundraising is its purpose, but we also bring awareness of Rotary to the community, and it has been a lot of fun for the Rotarians.

Other Discussion:  We do not require insurance because we are not purchasing the licence.

Project Review: Rotary Look-Out:  Chair-Loretta

The Rotary Look-out began in 2005.  Located at the north exit of Vermilion on Hwy 41.  The project does require some upkeep but it mostly just rolls along on its own.  It is a very visible Rotary project and is a success. Many people talk about it and know of it.

What is involved:  In the spring there is prep-ing, planting of flowers, pruning and mulching alternate every other year.  This year the bench was also repaired. In November there is a work-bee to clean-up and set-up a Christmas tree in November.  During the growing months there is weeding and watering to be done. Ocasionally, Al with the Town will give the plants a watering.  Night Spray sprayed the caterpillars-Thank you.

Hours:  The spring work bee requires about 15 hours.  Loretta lets the club know when that will be. Loretta (or Brenda) spend about 1 hour a week during the growing season weeding and watering.

Expenses:  $100-120 for plants & flowers

    Challenges:  The weather.

Other Discussion:  This could be a good project to ask the Interact Club for their involvement.  Flag: Is a flag/flag pole possible?

Kayak Canoe Parade Challenge:

Vermilion is looking to break the World Guinness book record for most canoes and kayaks on the water at the same time.  It will take place at the Provincial Park on Monday, October 8th (Thanksgiving) starts at 9:00am. There is more information on the Town events site.  Go Vermilion!

Interact Club:

Interact will be starting up for another year.  First meeting is at 4:30 pm on September 17 at Kirby’s store (Christina’s Home Furnishings).  Interact is for age 12-18 year olds.

    $150- Shelley McCullough

    $100-June Menzies
