Guest-Shaun Cadrian, President of Vermilion Minor Hockey
Shaun gave a brief overview of what minor hockey looks like in the Vermilion are for the 2021/22 season. Registrations in most other leagues in Alberta are down 10-15% but registration in Vermilion has increased. There is a substantial shortage of referees because of pandemic shut downs. Pre pandemic saw 3000 referees in Alberta and now there are only 700 registered. Shaun had brought some new ideas to Vermilion’s minor hockey scene before the pandemic hit, a “Good Deeds coordinator” was assigned to encourage minor hockey players to help out in different areas of the community. He hopes that this hockey season will see a return to pre pandemic events.
