Introduction of Guest- Derek Collins
Business:
- Derek Collins spoke to club members about two things he is involved in within our community. First is the Food Bank. They have had an interesting year due to Covid 19 in the way people pick up food, it must now be served in hampers. They were expecting an increased need after Covid 19 hit but thankfully there was no rise in need. All monetary donations received are used to purchase food and they are completely a volunteer organization. They are located in the Catholic Church and do not pay rent. They serve food to approximately 30 adults and 15 children per week. The second project that Derek is involved in is the Vermilion Rural Mental Health Project. The goal of this project is to educate the community around mental illness and promote connections that build community resilience. Derek says that there many places to look for help for someone suffering from mental illness that most community members are not aware of . He hopes this project will link those in need with the help they need. For more information on this project you can find them on Facebook or email vermilionmentalhealthproject@gmail.com or Derek.collins@ualberta.net
- Scott Webb will be doing the Ride to Conquer Cancer this year, but it won’t be the same as his last ride. Participants will be cycling within their own community to log kilometers. So if you see Scott cycling between here and Mannville give him a honk of encouragement or offer him a ride cause he said he isn’t quite as prepared this year as he was last year! Way to go Scott!!
