On Wednesday morning April 4, the Rotary club of Stony Plain had the pleasure of Constable Gordon Buck's visit to the club, to explain the RCMP's involvement and dedication to project, Y.I.E.L.D. ( Youth Initiatives & Education in Lifestyles & Driving).
Constable Buck outlined the epidemic in street racing, primarily by our younger adults, in that it has been a major issue for the police to deal with. Further he discussed a number of examples of fatalities that have occured locally as a result of this activity.
By making presentations, using their RCMP dragster, throughout the community and local schools, it has brought our youth closer to our law enforcement group, in communication and relationships. The program advocates taking cars to authorized race tracks rather than the streets, and re-inforces the fact that street racing is part of the criminal code and is an unacceptable behaviour.
The Club appreciates the efforts expended by Constable Buck and his associates to get this message out to the community.
