On Wednesday Aug 17, the Rotary Club of Stony Plain heard Mr. Joe Gubbels Director with "Rainbow of Hope for Children", speak of his volunteer activities as a member of the Rotary Club of Chincha Baja, Peru. Mr Gubbels discussed how the majority of the people of Chincha Baja live in poverty with a lack of opportunities and outlook to the future. Particularly devastating was the earthquake of 2007 which destroyed many of the homes along with educational facilities. A major effort and support has been extended to rebuild schools and community facilities. Medical, vision and dental services have been volunteered by international Rotary Clubs and other organizations, all of which gives these people some hope for their future and more importantly for their Children's future.
