Edmonton Ice District
Stew MacDonald, Chief Commercial Officer for the Oilers Entertainment Group, shared plans for the development of the Ice District in downtown Edmonton at the January 11 regular club meeting.
The vision is to be a global leader in sports entertainment. To build that vision, environmental concerns were taken into account and Roger's Place is LEED certified. Careful thought was given to making the area a positive place for people to connect with each other and join activities.
Plans for the 25 acre Ice District include three towers and an outdoor plaza that will provide year-round events. Music concerts and film festivals will be summer features with an outdoor skating rink taking centre stage in winter. The Stantec Tower, at 68 storeys, will be the tallest Canadian building outside of Toronto. The Marriott Hotel will join Edmonton as the first 4-star hotel in 30 years.
