Alliance native Bill Beltz, author of The Buried War, will be speaking on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m., in the Children’s Program Room. He shares the story of his father, a WWII veteran who served in active combat in Guadalcanal for three years, then suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). His book is a memoir of the survival of his family living with poverty and the ravaged home life brought on by his father’s mental illness, the author’s life-long struggle with depression, and his search for life’s meaning and purpose.
Beltz was born in Alliance and lived with his family on High Street behind the present location of the Library. He obtained his Ed. M. in Psychology and Learning Disabilities. Beltz is on the Board of the Thomas Wolfe Society that encourages creative writing and readership, is an entrepreneur, successful business owner, and spent several years as a teacher and Franciscan monk. Copies of his book will be available for purchase at the time of the program for $14.00. This program is free and open to the public. No registration is needed. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 107.
