Congratulations to Syl Haisan from Kevin Hilgers DG Elect 2012 - 2013
Congrats to new Area 5 Assistant Governor for 12/13, Syl Haisen of Morinville, replacing Sharon Cornelius July 1, 2012, for whom we thank for such gracious service.
Say hi to Syl at syl@cafischerlumber.com - You may even want to announce at Club level, certainly when they are at your next meeting!
Please join me in thanking and congratulating our newest Assistant Governor. The AG role is defined below. Presidents and PE's, please make use of your AG as a resource. He or she should be your first line of contact regarding District or Rotary International queries. Please also send your congratulations and introductions when you can.
There are 14 areas, 14 AG's. Clubs Syl is responsible for: Morinville, Parkland After Dark, St. Albert St. City, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain

Role of the Assistant Governor
Basically the AG is to be a liaison between the club and DG, and to provide guidance where needed.. and also to encourage the club Presidents to ensure they are on track. For instance - we may find out that “11 Presidents are not signed up for spring training”. We ask the AG’s to follow up (Nag) I enjoyed my 2 years and then passed it along to Vernon Boyd.
Club Presidents Manual says:
Assistant governors are appointed by the district governor to help clubs operate effectively and achieve their goals. Each assistant governor is responsible
For working with four to eight clubs. The following responsibilities are recommended for an assistant governor:
• Assisting in implementing and reviewing the Club Leadership Plan
• Helping identify and review club goals using the Planning Guide for Effective Rotary Clubs
• Attending club meetings and assemblies as invited, particularly the club assembly associated with the governor’s official visit
• Visiting each club regularly (preferably monthly with a minimum of one visit each quarter of the Rotary year) and meeting with club leaders to discuss club business, resources, and handling of club funds
• Assisting club leaders in scheduling and planning for the governor’s official visit
• Acting as a liaison between the governor and clubs
• Encouraging clubs to follow through with suggestions from the governor
• Assisting clubs with service projects and monitoring progress
• Identifying and encouraging the development of future district leaders
We have a budget to cover costs and mileage for AG’s. We encourage AG’s to submit for this.
