Common Questions
You may have questions about Rotary Youth Exchange, we created this page to cover some of the more general questions. Of course we will have information in some of the local schools soon, and an information evening in Lloydminster- stay tuned! If your question(s) wasn't covered below, please feel free to contact us and we will get back to you.

How old do I have to be to go on this exchange?

For the 2015-2016 exchange, all students will be considered eligible for the Rotary Youth Program for District 5370 if born on or after January 1, 1998. The minimum age for eligibility is 15 1/2 years of age.

Where can we travel to and if chosen are we guaranteed that country?

Only the countries found on the current country list will be choices to travel to and are current Rotary partners. You are not guaranteed your first or even your third choice as the district decides your destination after an extensive interview with the nominee and their parents. Based on your personality and adaptability, the district will designate you to a country you will be more successful in, and have the most positive experience possible.

Do the school credits earned on the exchange transfer over?

Some students do make it happen, however in most circumstances, no. It depends in the country. Also, Rotary Youth Exchange for the most part believes this is a cultural exchange – not an educational exchange. If you are worried about grades all year – we think you’ll miss out on a lot. A one year exchange is a once in lifetime opportunity. Yes you will attend school but most times the grades do not count. Small price to pay for a rare opportunity. Your real education will be outside school!

What is the cost?

In Lloydminster we cover half of the one price fee which generally is around $5500. In addition to 1/2 this fee there will be costs incurred for shopping and incidentals, also most countries offer further travel and activities within the country or area which are optional to all exchange students, but also generally at the students expense.
