Our club has opened a trust account to collect funds for the relief effort in D2530.  Our exchange student Karly Hilgers was living in Koriyama in the Fukushima Prefecture (60 km from the Fukushima nuclear plant) when the earthquake struck on March 11. Karly's host father and other Rotarians were instrumental in helping Karly get to Tokyo and safely home. This despite chaos, impassable roads, and gasoline shortages and rationing. Our executive has decided to raise money to pass on to the executive of D2530.

The funds will be designated to a worthy project in their district. Our district (5370) has graciously agreed to support our effort by issuing charitable tax receipts to every donation of $25 or more. Our executive has agreed to donate $5000 of matching money and as we have already raised $5000 our total is presently at $10,000.  Our club also has a fundraiser (Hot Flash Havoc) planned for May; with proceeds going to this relief fund.  Once all funds have been received and a project identified Rotary International will be contacted for matching dollars. As news of our fund reaches other Rotarians through the district newsletter and the convention we are hoping other clubs will join us in this worthy cause. Donations are accepted by mail to our club address Box 22091 Grande Prairie, AB T8V 6X1. Cheques must be made payable to D2530 Disaster Relief.
