Welcome to September!

This month's Rotarian Magazine is full of information about the upcoming RI convention in Singapore-a land of surprises, May 25-29, 2024.

A little closer to home, the District 6040 Foundation Hoop-La event on November 4th will showcase our local efforts to "Imagine" a better world. Our club is a Hoop-La Champion by sponsoring a table for ten with a donation of $2,500. Tickets are still available, check out the District web site for information.

As we move forward in this Rotary year, I hope you will all take advantage of the many opportunities to help Rotary "Create Hope in the World."

District Grant Update: Ruth Moore Community Garden

A few of the pieces of the rotating sculpture program are on the move!! In preparation for 12 new sculptures to be installed in September, artists from last years installation will be coming to pick up their sculptures.

One of the pieces that we purchased this year, Drop is now permanently relocated to Ruth Moore Park (401 Grover Street) in the Community Garden!

Look who showed up for the Northland Rotary Mixer Thursday 8/31/23 at Conrad's Local Kitchen & Patio in Kearney MO.

Members came from Kearney MO Rotary Club , Liberty Rotary Club District 6040 , Rotary Club of Lawson Missouri , Excelsior Springs Rotary Club , Smithville Rotary Club , and beyond.

Committee News: Administrative-Billing

-The finance committee has been very busy over the last several months working to simplify and organize the club's billing. Starting with the July 2023 bills you will receive two bills: one from the Club via Clubrunner for your club dues and meals, and one from the Club Foundation via Quickbooks for Happy $'s and Club Foundation donations. You will start receiving billing from both this month. Yes, you will now have to pay two bills but the back side money tracking for our two treasurers is much less complicated!

-If you have questions contact: Linda Hicks, Club Treasurer, or David Evans, Club Foundation Treasurer. If you would like to update your billing options submit a new billing form.

Committee News: "Creative Content" Assignments

-This year members have been assigned a week where they are going to be the "Creative Content" developer for the week's meeting. Literally we pulled names out of a cup!

-Content can include a speaker, games, field trips, or whatever content can imagined!

-Program Chair, Doreen Scarborough, will be available to assist with ideas and to coordinate dates as needed.

-The list of Creative Content Assignments can be found in Clubrunner under volunteers.

RI President 2023-24

The International Day of Peace takes place 21 September. The United Nations General Assembly declared this a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.

It is not enough, as People of Action, to simply avoid making war. If we are to Create Hope in the World, we must aggressively wage peace.

Where can we begin? There are countless armed conflicts around the world, and the global population of displaced people is higher than ever. The opportunities are nearly limitless, but the cycles of violence and hardship seem endless.
