Club News: December 8th, 2021
Fellow Rotarians,

It was a busy week for our Rotary Club:  distributing last Wednesday the 139 poinsettias we sold to raise money to support our youth programs, putting together on Friday the 8 new raised beds for our District Grant project at Ruth Moore Community Garden & Grove,  ringing bells Saturday for Salvation Army at Hy-Vee, and putting up the Holiday lights at Rotary Plaza on Sunday.  Check out the Club photo albums below to see all the action!

This week we are taking it a little easier!  We will not have a meeting at noon on Wednesday, instead we will have a joint meeting with the Satellite club on Thursday at 5:30pm to celebrate the holiday season.   I hope to see you all at Catch 22 on Thursday!

Dates to keep in mind:
*     November 18th  thru December 7th - Hillcrest Hope Adopt a Family.                             Check out the volunteer list on Club Runner for gift needs or donate money for others to purchase on your behalf.

*     Wednesday, December 8th - NO NOON MEETING

*     Thursday, December 9th @5:30pm - Liberty Rotary Club Christmas Party
We will be meeting at Catch-22 (on Liberty Square) for a relaxing evening social.   This will be a joint event with our satellite club.   The cost will be $10 per person and will cover an assortment of appetizers and limited, non-alcoholic drinks. Guests are welcomed and encouraged.   We just ask that you please RSVP so we can order an appropriate amount of food.

Hope to see you Thursday.

December: Disease Prevention & Treatment Month

President 2021-22
December 2021
Public health is on everyone’s mind due to the global pandemic that still threatens the safety of ourselves and our loved ones. In a sense, COVID-19 has made all of us much more aware of the roles and responsibilities of medical professionals than we were before we had to wear masks and maintain social distance. In addition, while moving through this pandemic, we have also learned about the role we can play in keeping others safe.

December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month in Rotary. The pandemic unfortunately has schooled most people on the toll that disease takes on our communities. But fighting disease is something that Rotarians around the world have been doing for decades. In fact, it is one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus.

As Rotarians, we believe that good health and well-being is a human right — even though 400 million people across the globe do not have access to essential health services. The work we do in establishing clinics, eye hospitals, and blood banks, as well as in building infrastructure for medical facilities in underserved communities, all returns to a central belief that access, prevention, and education are the keys to stopping deadly outbreaks that harm the most vulnerable.
