Club News: July 17th,  2024

Hello fellow Rotarians!

It was another beautiful Saturday for Coffee at the Plaza! What started as a casual conversation about utilizing the plaza and creating awareness has turned into a weekly community event. Each week, as people stroll by on their way to the Farmers Market, we offer free coffee, water, restrooms, and a place to sit and enjoy lighthearted conversations.

The three questions that we hear each week; “What is this place?”, “What is Rotary?”, and my personal favorite “Why are you doing this?”. We are met with smiles and intrigue as we explain that it is truly free for the community, no strings attached. (I promise, no timeshare presentation and you can keep your current cell phone carrier!).  I love sharing that Rotary is a group of people who care about our community, and with no strings attached, want to do good things in the world. Service above Self, always. So, stop by some Saturday to smile at people walking by, slow down to sip a cup of coffee and catch up with your Rotarian friends.

Have a wonderful week!

Committee News:  District Grants 2024-25
We are working on two District Grants: one for 2024-25 & one still in development for 2025-26.  This year we are going to repair some water damage to an apartment at Hillcrest Transitional Housing.  Unlike last year where we had very little "sweat" equity, this year we will have to roll up our sleeves to remove damaged carpet, put down flooring, repair molding, and paint!  More information about the DG under development for 2025-26 will be coming!

Committee News:  Speaker Assignments
Names were drawn from our active member lists and assigned to  find speakers/programs for the upcoming year.   Check out the "Speaker List" to see what week you were tasked with!    If you need to switch weeks or have a program idea contact Program Chair-Doreen Scarborough.
Guess who is coming to dinner Feb 5th!!!!!

What Kind of Rotary Magic Will You Create in 2024-2025?
As we begin the 2024-2025 Rotary year, we have a chance to build on the numerous successes of the past year, to grow Rotary, and to continue to provide invaluable service in our local communities and around the world.
Our District 6040 leadership team is here to serve you as a club leader and Rotarian. To see who serves on the committees of the district, please visit https://rotary6040.org/DistrictOrganizationChartPhoto/2024.
A few of the initiatives of the district that you’ll see featured in the district newsletter throughout the year that I would encourage everyone to learn about are District Grants (every club Is encouraged to apply, and thanks to the generosity of our Rotarians in 2021-2022, we have a lot of funds to spend on District Grants this year), Global Grants (your club can participate in meaningful International Service  without expending any club funds), Rotary Youth Exchange (consider hosting a student in 2025-2026 in your Rotary community), Rotary Friendship Exchange (travel the world), and the new Peace and Conflict Resolution anti-bullying program for girls called “Step Up”.
