Club News: July 31th,  2024

Hello fellow Rotarians!

Calling all wannabe Picasso’s, this Wednesday July 31 st , you are going to have your chance to make a fine piece of art at the direction of our very own, Shawn Garland. I have been told that Shawn   is a miracle worker and can help anyone create a masterpiece! Still skeptical, join us as a spectator for the 5th Wednesday Social at The Artisan Market. Rotary will provide food and water for everyone in attendance. Want something else to "sip"??? BYOB  Please register to let us know that you are coming so that we can have enough food.   UPDATE:  Shawn has arranged for us to use the front door (HDLI's door) to the building to access our event....no Steps!

Last Saturday we welcomed Christmas in July Beer Crawl participants to our very own "Mele Kalikamaka Island" (known to some as the Rotary Plaza) to sample some frosty cold Float Trip Ale.   Thank you to everyone who helped decorate, serve, and devoted time to ensure strict quality control measures (no warm beer served at our stop!). It was a fun day!

Our Hillcrest Apartment is almost ready for the Rotary Elves to come and refresh the space, preparing it for the new family. Be on the lookout for a sign-up, we won’t have much time to get the work completed between residents.

Last but not least, our club is participating in a food drive to help Feed Northland Kids stock the  shelves at local schools. This provides snacks and easy meals for children from food insecure homes. The Liberty Rotary Club is collecting Individual Sized chips/Goldfish/cheez-its, etc, and full size jars of peanut butter and jelly (no glass please). Please grab these items when you are at the store to bring to club meetings during the month of August.

Have a wonderful week!

Committee News:  District Grants 2024-25
We are working on two District Grants: one for 2024-25 & one still in development for 2025-26.  This year we are going to repair some water damage to an apartment at Hillcrest Transitional Housing.  Unlike last year where we had very little "sweat" equity, this year we will have to roll up our sleeves to remove damaged carpet, put down flooring, repair molding, and paint!  More information about the DG under development for 2025-26 will be coming!

Service: Christmas in July Beer Crawl 2024
Another HDLI Beer Crawl is now in the history books and it was a good one!   This participant was awarded the "Best T-Shirt" award for the event. Click in the picture to see the photo album for the event.

NEWS & UPDATES
New Caused Based Rotary Club D6040
I am pleased and excited to announce we have chartered a new club in our district.

Rotary International notified me Thursday they have received the charter application for the "Kansas City Metro Rotary Club to End Homelessness."

This is a Cause-Based club. Meaning it is focused solely on the cause of homelessness for its service projects, fundraising etc. Most of the chartering members (27 charter members. The club is up to 30 members currently) are new to Rotary and represent a dozen or so homeless advocacy organizations throughout the metro area.  It is unique in our district in others way as well. Most of the members are under 40, female and more diverse than the typical club in our district.
They will meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at different homeless service locations and will incorporate a service project at that location each meeting.
