GLOBAL GRANT FOR HONDURAS TEACHER TRAINING

In December 2013, Fred Hahn, Charlotte Ruoff and John Harder met with District Governor Elect CassyVenters, District Foundation Chair John Gill and District Grants Chair Elizabeth Usovicz to discuss a global grant based on the combined work of the Rotary Club of Independence and Friends United.  For the next year, work on the grant proceeded, including a planning trip to Tegucigalpa in April 2014.  The grant was based on teacher training using the expertise of U.S. teachers serving on a Vocational Training Team.  The project organization is composed of the Villa Real de Tegucigalpa Rotary Club as the Host Club, the Rotary Club of Independence as the International Club, and Amigos Unidos Honduras as the Cooperating Organization.  After a year of work and the dedicated support of Elizabeth Usovicz, the Rotary Foundation approved Global Grant.

The Global Grant Project consists of three parts: Part 1 – Three day seminar, Part 2 – Follow up visits to teachers, and Part 3 – Books for school libraries.  The Seminar was held in January 2015.  The follow up visits and delivery of books to school libraries will take place from March through November 2015.
