Eileen Weir was elected as mayor of Independence in April, 2014. Prior to being elected as the City’s 50th Mayor, and 2nd female Mayor, she served as Independence Councilwoman for the 4th District from 2012-2014.  Mayor Weir serves on the board of directors for the Independence Economic Council, Mid-America Regional Council, Missouri Municipal League and the United Services Community Action Agency.  She also serves on the Blue Valley Sewer District Board of Trustees and on KC Rising Steering Committee along with being a member of the United States Conference of Mayors, National League of Cities, the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Eastern Jackson County Betterment Council, and the Kansas City Metro Mayors Caucus.
Mayor Weir attended Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York where she earned a B. A. in English Communication.  She became a resident of the Kansas City area in 1992 when she accepted a position within the Public Relations Department for the Kansas City Chiefs.  She left the Chiefs in 2000 but continued to do freelance writing for the website and team publications while also operating her own Public Relations firm.
