Ray Purpur, Stanford Deputy Athletic Director and Honorary New Member!

Ray Purpur, Deputy Athletic Director at Stanford joined us this last Friday, August 17th to talk about athletics at Stanford, as well as to accept being recognized as an honorary member of Palo Alto University Rotary.  Mr. Purpur discussed his focus on Stanford athletics upcoming year as a part of the Pac 12, and expressed pride in Stanford athletes' impressive showing at the recent London Olympics.  Stanford sent 23 women and 22 men to London, and among them set multiple records, including 12 world records, 2 Olympic records, 1 American record, and 1 collegiate record.  Although Stanford boasts an impressive record of "wins", Mr. Purpur stressed the importance of sportsmanship and believes focusing on sportsmanship has guided Stanford to so many victories, including multiple Director’s Cups.  We applaud that philosophy.
