JANUARY MUSINGS
A month has passed since the last posting, so I will summarize what has been happening in the local Rotary world....
Mega Lottery Draw 2010
On Boxing Day, Rotarians could be found at the Totem Mall, assisting with the last minute preparations for the draw (think pulling hundreds of staples off the ticket stubs minutes before the draw itself). Still full of the Christmas spirit, we all pitched in with the task, and were ready for the draw on time. Thanks everyone! Angel Investors and Entrepreneurs
Earlier this month, Lori Ackerman of Sci-Tech North, along with members of the Chamber of Commerce, joined our lunch meeting. Lori introduced the guest speaker, Ian Wong, who is a Portfolio Manager with the BC Ministry of Competion, Science and Enterprise, at the Investment Capital branch. This particular branch delivers the Venture Capital program. The Venture Capital program is one of three key programs administered by our provincial government to help small business gain access to capital. Club Assembly
The club assembly, held January 20th, was well attended. There was a full agenda, with information and idea sharing around the topics of club membership, meeting agendas, upcoming service and fundraising plans. With these new plans executed, it should prove to be a very exciting six months of meetings and projects. In particular, we can look forward to joining forces with Lakepoint Golf and Country Club for the upcoming fundraiser on April 2nd, to finalizing the scope of the amenities to be added to the Rotary RV Park at Charlie Lake, and to implementing changes that will result in higher attendance at our weekly meetings.
