Rotary Fort St John Weekly Update July 24, 2013
Rotary Fort St John Weekly Update
Starting this week for the upcoming year, I will be generating a short weekly newsletter to update members on the prior week’s meeting and provide updates on upcoming events. If you would like any content added for the upcoming newsletter, please send it to Michael Elphinstone at
Last Meeting: Thursday, July 18th, 2013.
Thursday was an excellent meeting with a guest speaker Lesley Anderson from the United Way of Northern BC (based in Fort St John) was here to speak to us about a number of initiatives in NE BC. Lesley shared information on a number of projects including the Northern Brain Injury Association. For more information on the Unity Way of Northern BC visit their website at
We received a challenge for the 2nd annual Home Hardware Redneck Handyman Challenge which occurred this past Saturday for a head to head Handyman competition with the Sunshine Rotary Club. Unfortunately, we were not able to put forward a team to compete with Sunrise but hopefully we can challenge them in upcoming years.
Lastly, we received an update on the RCMP musical which took place on July 11th, 2013. Event was a success with 430 attendees despite the pouring rain. Despite the weather, event went well with strong sponsorship from key businesses within the community. Please join me in thanking Dean Anderson and his committee members for all their hard work on this successful project.
Next Executive Meeting
Next executive meeting is Wednesday, July 24th, 2013 at 11:30AM for lunch at Murray GM. Any/all members are always welcome if they are interested in attending.
2013 District Conference
The 2013 District Conference will be hosted by the Rotary Club of Edmonton Glenora on October 4th and 5th. As a club, I would like to encourage everyone that can to register online at
http://www.conference5370-2013.ca and attend the district conference. It has been a number of years since we have had a strong contingent at a district conference and lets make this the year that we change it. If you are interested, please contact Michael Elphinstone and we can try and coordinate travel plans for the event as I will be attending.
Fort St John Rotary Link of the Week
With the new Rotary Year starting in July, I would like to introduce our incoming President for Rotary International, Ron Burton. If you have the chance, I encourage everyone to read his induction speech for 2013.
The theme for 2013-2014 is Engage Rotary, Change Lives.
Next Rotary Meeting
Next Meeting is Thursday, July 25th, 2013 at 12PM at Quality Inn Northern Grande. I look forward to seeing you all at the meeting.
