What's been going on within our local Rotary world? If you haven't been to our meetings lately, here is a re-cap of events over the last two months..
February 16
Rotary Club rolls out funds to local non-profits
Thanks to Connie Sall and her committee, the gaming report has been filed, and the funds have been presented to the various non-profit groups. A total of 24 groups benefited from our lottery, sharing over $195,000. A big thank you to those groups for selling over $453,740 in tickets!
February 23
Rotary Day
In honor of the day in 1942 in which the Rotary organization was created by Paul Harris, The City of Fort St. John proclaimed February 23rd Rotary Day, at its Council Meeting. Representing local Rotarians were the presidents of both clubs, Montana Currie and Trina Warren, who shared future plans for the clubs, such as fundraisers and other potential opportunities for the community.
February 24
Men’s Health - Bernard Denner
After Northern Health hosted Men’s Health Night at On the Rocks Pub the night before, their representative, Bernard Denner, who is a Health Educator and the founder of the Centre for Advancement of Men’s Health, joined our lunch meeting to stress the importance of regular check-ups, along with other points, in order to live a long healthy life. During his informative and entertaining speech, he requested that local Rotarians help Northern Health support the Men’s Health initiative by getting the word out the next time Men’s Health Night is planned for Fort St. John.
March 3
A Day for Rotary International
John Bookham, our Club director responsible for Club Service and Rotary Foundation, presented a video clip from Rotary International’s video magazine. He briefed us on Rotary International programs such as Interact (service clubs for young people ages 14 – 18) and Rotaract (service clubs for young men and women ages 18 – 30). John also provided an update on the cumulative contributions to Rotary Foundation, made by our Club members. He revisited the methods of signing on to make regular contributions, and how those that have not yet achieved their Paul Harris Fellowship recognition can do so.
March 10
Day to Promote your Business
The lunch meeting that date provided our Club members with the opportunity to promote their organization without being targeted by the Fine Master. The tables were filled with promotional material, ranging from post-it notes to breath mints to specialized newspapers. John Bookham provided us with insight to his business Radius NDE Services Inc., from his early start in non-destructive examinations, to where his company is now, in areas including pipeline corrosion and pipeline welds.
March 12
Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner
This is a wonderful event, in which fellow Rotarians and their spouses can meet and socialize in an informal dinner setting. The recent event was the second one held this year, with 22 people taking part, including some from the morning club. There were two different appetizer locations, after which smaller groups went to the homes of their designated dinner hosts, with no one knowing in advance, other than the respective hosts, who will be at each location. Thank you to Moira, Gerry, and Darlene for organizing this event for the Club.
Vocational Speeches
It was nice to hear from our President Elect and our Sergeant at Arms recently. Both Clark Lang, the General Partner of the local Murray GM dealership, and Darlene Collins, retired Entrepreneur, graciously gave their vocational speeches recently. They shared how they got to this point in their career, how they view the future, when they joined Rotary, as well as a glimpse of their families and their personal interests. We look forward to upcoming vocational speeches, including that of one of our newest members, Lee Bedell.

Richard T. McCrea
Peace Region Paleontology Research Centre (PRPRC)
The PRPRC, established in Tumbler Ridge by the Tumbler Ridge Museum Foundation in 2003, houses the dinosaur bones and other fossils found in the Tumbler Ridge area. Mr. McCrea has published scientific papers with top paleontologists in his field of study, on tracks and track sites for around the world.

1st Annual Lakepoint & Rotary Fundraising Par-tee
With my office right beside that of one of the fundraiser’s planners, I have been viewing the various auction items. Let me tell you, they are amazing! Make sure you save the date, purchase your tickets, and find a great costume, for what is sure to be a fabulous evening of food, drink, and good times. Our Club’s designated photographer will be sure to capture some memorable “Caddyshack” moments!
