On September 20, Rotarians, local community volunteers and law enforcement officers delivered dictionaries to third graders at a local elementary school.  They described their occupations and professions to the students and emphasized the importance of reading.  The Sacramento Police Department donated two bicycles to encourage the students to use their dictionaries to improve their reading skills.
The dictionary delivery is one component of a larger school-wide project, ROARing Readers.  The students' literacy improvement is tracked through the year, and literacy improvement, including improvement over the summer break, is rewarded with prizes at three assemblies throughout the school year.
