Tools to help Children with Trauma

  • 2017-Train the Trainer Humbolt Teacher Jake Kretzer chosen to become the first Teacher to utilize our grant funds to help children in the SJSD. Breakfast Buddies Program - the staff and students of Humboldt Elementary as they meet for breakfast in small “family groups” Child Trauma Book Study - Join the teachers and staff of Humboldt Elementary as they continue their Child Trauma Training with Jean West and Jake Kretzer leading a study of the book “The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog: And Other Stories from a Child Psychiatrist’s Notebook –What Traumatized Children Can Teach Us About Loss, Love and Healing” by Dr. Bruce Perry (Senior Fellow, Child Trauma Academy, Houston, TX). Humboldt Teachers’ Lounge Improvements - In order for the students to better focus on learning and self-regulate, their teachers need to be able to do the same.  
  • 2018-Continued Teacher Trauma Training, book study, and Teacher appreciation dinner.  This year-Several Teachers were given the tools to help children with trauma.  In late spring-we held an appreciation dinner for these Teachers so they could come talk about their programs and provide info to Rotarians about how the grant money was being used.  Several Rotarians attended the event as well as  attended the book studies throughout the year with the Teachers.
  • 2019-March 27th-Trauma Recertification Training for over 50 Teachers, Social Workers, and members of several Northwest communites was held at Stoney Creek.  Several Rotary volunteers helped that day.  Lunch was provided as well as several giveaways to show appreciation for their efforts.
  • 2020-3-club District and Global Grant project coming in 2019-2020.
The two resources every member of our club will find helpful as we move forward with our projects.
