Our "Celebrity Speaker" for Wednesday, February 8th was a very valuable community leader, who quietly built one of the largest NFP social enterprise companies in Canada. Dale Monaghan is the President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Alberta; a position he has proudly held since February 2012. Goodwill is a nonprofit social enterprise with operations across Alberta.
Dale’s two famous outlooks on work, leadership, community service, and life navigation are:
- Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way and
- If attaining perfection is not possible; in the pursuit of perfection, we will catch excellence.
During his career, Dale Monaghan has been publicly recognized and rewarded for many achievements, including;
- Dale was named one of the CEOs of the Year in 2022 by Edmonton Business Magazine.
- Dale is a friend of Rotary and has received in the past the Paul Harris award, as well as regular interaction with Rotary Clubs in the communities Goodwill serves. One of Dale’s proudest moments was confirming a deal between the Rotary Club of Spruce Grove and Goodwill to open Goodwill’s 100,000 square-foot Impact Centre in 2017 in northwest Edmonton, and specifically through this deal a new home for the You Can Ride 2 bicycle program endeared and supported by the Rotary Club of Spruce Grove.
- Presently, Dale and Goodwill are involved with a Rotary-supported project in St. Albert to support the opening of a future Youth Mental Health Hub. Dale’s Mom Arlaine Monaghan is a Past President of the Spruce Grove Rotary Club and a two-time recipient of the Paul Harris award.
Dale’s past career postings have included being CEO of the Mikisew Group of Companies, Chief of Staff for the Alberta Minister of Indigenous Relations, Special Projects Manager for the Mayor of Edmonton, and a Manager with Travel Alberta.
Mr. Monaghan resides with his wife Laurella and their Golden Retriever Jay on an acreage near Spruce Grove. Their daughter is proud to serve as the Marketing Manager for Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in Calgary having previously competed with Team Canada twice at the World Championships and through her fastball career becoming the only Canadian ever recruited to the Division 1 NCAA Kansas Jayhawks fastball program.
