Edmonton South Rotary Assists in Slave Lake

Al Reed organized a road trip to Slave Lake to assist in organizing the massive amount of donations that were donated in the aftermath of the the wildfire that consumed a third of the town. Seven Edmonton South Rotarians and a few more friends left the Derrick club early on Monday morning and drove to Slave Lake. The first day was spent helping to restock the Community Centre where residents can pick-up some of the neccessities of daily life that were destroyed by the fire. 

That evening we toured the town site and surrounding region to see first hand the extent of the damages and how the town was recovering. Tuesday morning the Slave Lake Rotary Club invited us to join them at their meeting and hear first hand how the club and the town are teaming together to recover.

It was a great opportunity to see how a relatively small club of about 24 members have had such a big impact on their home town - and how a small commitment of a few days could make such a difference to the spirit of a town in recovery.
