Riverview Rotarians host Northwest Territories wildfire evacuees to an evening of food and fellowship.
With the wildfires ranging in the Northwest Territories last week, thousands of people were forced out of their homes and heading south towards Edmonton. Riverview Rotarian David Kinnard immediately felt the need to help in some way. Partnering with District 5370 District Governor Brent Collingwood (and also a Riverview Rotarian), word was sent to evacuating Rotarians from Yellowknife and Hay River that Riverview would host evacuated Rotarians for an evening for food and fellowship.
On Saturday evening, August 26, David and his wife Helga along with several Riverview Rotarians, hosted the Rotarian evacuees in David and Helga's lovely back garden. Although these are stressful, anxious times, new friendships were made. In the process, David stayed true to Rotary's theme for this year: "Create Hope in the World". Thank you David and Helga.
