Janet Sadowski, from the non-profit "Basically Babies", shared with members the organizations journey (as hers as well). 30 years ago, Janet and four good friends came together and wanted to do something useful with the outgrown infant clothing of their children. From humble beginnings, they washed, sorted, and packaged items their basement and delivered it to agencies serving those in need around Edmonton. Now they receive donations, thousands of items each year, they have staff and volunteers and work space. They assemble layettes (or hampers) that contain 110 different items that provide a mother everything she'll need for her new baby. A wardrobe that will ensure the infant has the necessary clothes for each season, as well as books, wash cloths and blankets. Basically Babies serves immigrant families, women leaving abusive relationships, teenagers, anyone who is in need and has nowhere else to go. Although Janet has been involved with the group since its founding 30 years ago, tears still come to her as she speaks about the work they do.
