I was fortunate to have met Barry in 2013 when he organized a food drive in partnership with Lexus of Edmonton in support of Edmonton’s Food Bank. I was thrilled when I realized that he joined our very own Riverview Rotary Club and even more thrilled because Barry is passionate and dedicated to many amazing organizations.

Barry, like all Rotarians, is a great philanthropist.

Barry began his classification talk and self identified as “Happy and Lucky”. He was born in Calgary, Alberta and moved to Edmonton in 1979. His postsecondary travels took him to the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary and even the University of Minnesota. For the last thirteen years in a row, Barry has received the consumers choice award for cosmetic surgery…he even has a Bobble Head in his likeness. I am just a little jealous and envious.

In 2003, Barry experienced a life changing event. While in Disneyland with family, he experienced a flopping right foot. It was not a stroke but Barry was diagnosed with ALS. However, this diagnosis did not satisfy Barry. After doing his own research, Barry reached out to another doctor who was able to discount the ALS diagnosis and determine that Barry has actually Chronic Lime Disease. With treatment on a regular basis, Barry is able to continue to enjoy his passions: “My work; My volunteerism; My family; and Travel.”

Moving forward, Barry would like everyone to ask questions of themselves:

Did I live?

Did I love?

Did I matter?

This is one of the reasons why Barry considers himself “Lucky”.

It is no small secret that Barry is involved in many different and important causes including Doctors for the Practice of Safe & Ethical Aesthetic Medicine Association; Canadian Skin Cancer Foundation - preventative skin cancer initiatives for a world without skin cancers; Scar Treatment – laser surgery to improve people’s lives to name a few.
