Our speaker this week was Dianne David from the Whitemud Equine Learning Centre Association. Dianne : Started her presentation with a brief history of the location including; - Fred Keeler purchased the property from John Walters after WW1 when John was insolvent;
- Fred was a prominent citizen in Edmonton and used the area for recreational purposes;
- The original Equine arena was built in 1958 and replaced with the current arena last year;
- The Equine Centre was formed in 199 and it’s mandate is public education about horses;
- The equine center offers riding lessons to Edmontonians and partners with the Little Bits Society to offer horse riding opportunities to disabled persons.
Then toured us through the arena and the yoard. The tour included; - A visit to the new “indoor” washrooms;
- Meeting some of the resident horses and;
- A tour of the “Heart Stone House” on the property
