Overheard at Breakfast on March 13, 2019

We had a decent turnout.

Ken Saunders announced that the club has selected it’s nominee for this year’s Integrity Awards on May 8, 2019.

 

Elisabeth Bonkink reported that ticket sales for our End Polio wine draw are proceeding well. The deadline for selling tickets (and for the draw) has been extended from April 1 to April 15. Lionell Usunier and Keg n Cork donated a case of wine for the draw. Thank You for your generosity Lionell tt tt

 

Several members of our Club attended a fundraiser event at the McKay Avenue school that was hosted by the U of A Rotaract Club. It was held in support of the YESS Society and was a fun evening. If you missed the event this year please make an effort to come out next year.

Our speakers this week was Chun Yen. Chun Yen is an associate with the Epoch Times newspaper. Chun was introduced to the Falun Gong meditation movement while she was studying in Australia. When she returned to China she was persecuted for being involved with that group and she emigrated to Canada.

Chun Yen talked about the mission of  the Epoch Times to tell the truth about world events and to provide an independent source for information.

She talked about communist indoctrination techniques in China and how the Chinese government has spread  it’s influence around the world. She told us that there is an underground movement in China of people who have quit the communist organisations in that country.

Chun Yen was a very interesting speaker and she brought an important message to us.
