indigenous Health Initiative program with the University of Alberta Medical and Dental schools. Our speaker this week was Kenton Boutilier. Kenton is the administrator for the
Kenton told us that the iniatative was started over 30 years ago. It’s goal is to address the drastic under representation of indigenous professionals in the health professions.
They do outreach to students in public schools in Edmonton and throughout Alberta to interest them in science and encourage them to pursue education and a career in the health professions.
When indigenous students come to the university they help them with their application and provide assistance to help them adapt.
Kenton talked about the numbers of seats that are available in the faculties for indigenous students and the successes the program has enjoyed n it’s 30 year history.
Thank you to Kenton for a very important message about an important, if relatively unknown initiative.
