July 3rd, 2019
Our first breakfast meeting under our new president, Shannon Troke.
We had a small but enthusiastic turnout (only 15). Perhaps the lower turnout was because it is summer and perhaps it was because our treasurer, Pat Coyle, was handing out invoices for the next Rotary Year.
Before past president David Keam turned the gavel over to Shannon he;
  1. Presented a “Rotarian of the Year” to two or our hardest working members, Pat Coyle and Elizabeth Bonkink. He reminded us all of how much work they put into making our Club a success and how critical their contributions are to our success. (I think that both people are very strong members and David could noe have made better choices)
  2. Handed over his “Presidents Pin” to Shannon;
  3. Announced that our long time member, Doug McEwan, has reached a milestone with the Rotary Foundation. He has donated $10,000.00 US to the Rotary Foundation. Unfortunately Doug was not at our meeting last week. Hopefully he will return soon so that we can properly recognize his achievement and his generosity.
  4. Thanked his outgoing board of directors and announced that, instead of giving gifts to each outgoing director he was making a donation to our Scholarship fund with the Edmonton Community foundation. (Thanks David, I think that is a great idea)
David Winfield then read the official “inauguration speech” and Shannon was inducted as our new president.
Shannon then assumed his presidency and;
  1. Announced his new board;
  2. Announced that next year the board meetings will be held on the same night and location as our monthly Pub Nights; (first meeting August 1 at the Faculty Club)
  3. Summarised his goals and proposed schedule for the upcoming your (it looks like we will have a great year)
