Telling Rotary's story and Gateway - excellent programs and sessions, and some controversy! We took advantage of having this massive convention just down the road and had nearly half the club attend!
Although the opening ceremony, with inflatable horses, one cowboy with a lasso, a political speech from the premier and 6 oddly dressed dancers, left everyone a bit “deflated” in anticipation of the days ahead - the 5 days was a big hit for everyone.
Sunday - after the opening ceremony, saw everyone go to Betty Lou's Library - a speakeasy club with live jazz, - and really got into the groove of conventioneering!
Geena Davis was a key note speaker - on behalf of her institute, championing gender representation in the media - and had 15,000 Rotarians totally engaged when she outlined a study done a few years ago that showed 62% of women in STEM careers were influenced by Dana Scully from XFiles……likely like Flashdance got a lot of women into welding!
Break out sessions included great info on club leadership, DEI, Youth in Rotary and how to use social media more effectively.
There was time for fun - the ferris wheel, dinner and jazz at the Blackfoot Inn and a memorable dinner at the River Cafe - listed as #23 in the top 100 Canadian restaurants
