Wow, our first in person Rotary meeting since March 2020!!
It was great to see a lot of “old” faces we had not seen for a couple years or more (Like Ed Korbyl, John Drebit and Trina Morelli). I counted over 15 people at the table.
There were lots of differences from our last meeting;
- Different president
- It was in the evening not morning
- It was at the University Club not the Delta
- There was alcohol
- 5. The food was great
Reports were that the “Guess Who is Coming to Dinner” event was well attended and a good time was had by all. Thank you Tereena for organising.
Lorne formally announced that our charity, Stephens Hope Society now has charitable society and has received it’s first 2 charitable donations. Plans are underway for a fundraiser wine dinner. Please start campaigning for silent auction donations and stay tuned for more information.
Our speaker was Edmonton Public School Board Chair Trisha Estabrooks. Trisha gave a very interesting and important presentation. She talked about;
- Why she left journalism to become involved in politics;
- How their teachers, parents, students and others stepped forward to enable theschools to cope during Covid
- The importance of an independent elected school board;
- The new school curriculum
- The future of education in Edmonton
Trisha is an articulate and passionate advocate for our schools and their students.
