Chelsea McCoy is the pregnancy, parenting, and adoption supervisor in Lincoln, for Nebraska Children’s Home Society. She has always been passionate about children and families and has six children that call her mom. Chelsea began her work at the children’s home four years ago as a pregnancy, parenting and adoption specialist. As a specialist, she was responsible for supporting parents who are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy, providing support and education on the options of adoption and parenting. In her new role as supervisor, she is tasked with growing recognition of the program as a parenting support to families. She says, “It is exciting to see NCHS grow its work in this area. We are passionate about the families we support and our work reflects that every day.”
The University of Nebraska, along with 19 other Universities received $11 million at the beginning and now they are sharing $51 million from the National Science Institute to do research on the Higgs Boson. You might ask – What is the Higgs Boson? Dan Claes explained to Lincoln East Rotary Club how the Department of Physics and Astronomy got involved. One thing we learned is that everything has mass.

Lincoln East Rotary Club Foundation gave $50,000 to the Lincoln Parks Foundation to help purchase five of the new stands for the Veteran Gardens located in Antelope Park. These new stands will replace the old concrete ones that held the bricks with names of veterans who have fought for our country.
This week I’d like to suggest that as a member of LERC you have a distinct advantage over many others. Every person needs to know that we can and will make a difference. The human spirit has an inextinguishable hunger for a cause so consuming that it can fill the emptiness of the soul with pride, purpose and pleasure. A mission statement keeps us focused on the meaning and purpose of life and helps us stay on course through the evolving challenges and accomplishments of this process called living. Far too many people live without a clear, consuming mission. Instead of an inner drive flowing from their mission in life they have an inner lethargy that makes for an aimless existence. Their personal behavior is shaped by reactivity instead of proactivity.
District 5650 is helping Ukraine by using the remaining District Designated Funds of $15,000 as a match for donations to The Rotary Foundation Disaster Fund. This needs to be done by April 15th. Here is what you do:
1. Go to https://my.rotary.org/en/disaster-response-fund. You will need to use your login to My Rotary and make a donation so that we will be able to track what amount our District has given. You will also receive credit towards your Paul Harris Fellow and Every Rotarian Every Yera if you are logged in.
2. OR you can mail a check made out to The Rotary Foundation and put Ukraine in the memo line. Mail the check to Bill Harvey at 17503 V Street, Omaha, NE 68135. You will still receive credit towards PHF and EREY.
3. AND please share the link with your networks, family, friends, neighbors, social media platforms...you do not need to be a Rotarian to give to this fund. It is the safest and most effective use of their donation dollars! 100% of the funds given for this will go directly to relief efforts.

Even with the vaccine, we continue to keep all of our teachers, school officials, and students, EMT's and first responders, hospital doctors and nurses, supermarket clerks, restaurant workers laid off or furloughed and waiting for unemployment, all those who are currently unemployed, human service organizations who still are open to serve those poor/homeless/hungry, funeral home workers, churches, airline employees, hotel employees, gas station and convenience store workers.
