What is Hospice?

What is Hospice?

Karen Cheesman, Tabitha Hospice Administrator and

Kara Hillhouse, Tabitha Hospice Spiritual Care Coordinator

They will be addressing some issues, such as how you qualify for hospice, who should consider going on hospice, what are the benefits of hospice, how do you pay for hospice, advanced directives and volunteer opportunities.

Changing of the Guard
On June 29th we "Changed Guard".  Shown left to right is incoming President Jerry Christensen and outgoing President Darrel Huenergardt.  Jerry presented Darrel with a plaque and past president's pin and likewise, Darrel presented Jerry with the President's pin.

Jerry accepted the President's job by reminding us that Lincoln East Rotary was chartered on March 11, 1953.  Since then their has been a lot of dedicated members and leaders for the club.  Lincoln East has had a long history of serving others both locally and internationally.  Those members knew our motto "Service Above Self."  Jerry wants to see that same thing this year and going forward.  Jerry feels all of us have different gifts and talents.  We need all of those talents to make our club successful and productive.  He feels the weekly club meeting is a big part in carrying on the ideals and traditions of Rotary.  Jerry wants to make the meetings interesting so members want to come to Rotary.  Rotary meetings have made him more aware of our community needs and ways he can serve.  Jerry wants to encourage our members to take part in the service projects that they have a passion for.  When a Rotarian serves in an area that he likes it is easy to serve.  Jerry wanted to thank all of the members for being a part of Lincoln East Rotary and willing to do their part.
June 29 - City Impact

 City Impact

Kirsty Goodwin told us that City Impact began with a weekly Bible Club in 1993 where it met in a home and later a church.  In 1997 it became a full-time job when the Bryan’s started City Impact.  It has grown into a fruitful epicenter for change, with programs and people who have transformed youth and their families.  In 2016 City Impact built a new building on North 33rd street near the Peter Pan Park.

President Message
Have you ever spent any time in a surgery waiting room?  This is the room where families wait while they have a loved one being operated on.  The air is thick with tension.  Everybody tries to hide it.  People bring books to read.  The hospital furnishes magazines and newspapers.  When a surgery is finished a doctor or nurse comes in and the family is called and the doctor gives hopefully a relieving report.  Every time somebody comes through that door you can tell that nobody is really doing any reading, because every eye is on him or her.  This is an uncomfortable place.  People wish they weren’t there.  They make their best of it, but they would do just about anything to have the ordeal over.
