The Kiona Foundation
Feb. 24, 2017
Dr. Lakisha Jenkins is a Traditional Naturopath and registered master herbalist. Specialties include medical cannabis education and cancer prevention. She will introduce us to the Kiona Foundation. Dr Jenkins daughter, Kiona was diagnosed with 2 different types of brain tumor in 2002 when she was 8 years old. She endured chemotherapy, radiation and two brain surgeries. Fortunately, the neurosurgeons were able to remove all of her brain tumor with the second surgery on June 1, 2005. "Unfortunately, she was unable to recover from the effects of chemotherapy and radiation and remained in the hospital in a semiconscious state until January 24, 2006. Kiona passed away not from brain cancer, but from the treatment, just 12 days shy of her 12th birthday. How did I spend the day remembering her life a legacy? In court, fighting for the right to help others discover natural therapies, such as medical cannabis. Fighting for the right when the right was granted over 20 years ago, regulated almost two years ago and legalized last year. Why do I advocate on behalf of the medical cannabis industry? Because people are dying, when they don't have to. I will continue to fight until the entire world recognizes the fact that #cannabisismedicine." |
