This week we hear from the Camrose Public Library and the programming it provides to the community.
 
The Buzz - November 2, 2015
 
President Tony opened the meeting at 1215 pm. There were no guests. 
 
Tony reminded members that since Tyler has change portfolios, the club is in need of volunteer to spearhead the subcommittee responsible for weekly speakers. Please see Bonita if you can provide some assistance.
 
Health of the club - no report 
 
Congratulations to Grant Burgess who received his Paul Harris Fellowship, presented by President Tony. 
DISCUSSION - club participation in the Stop Hunger program in May 2. Participation will cost the club $10,312.50. The production of the 50,000 meal packages would be split 50% Sherwood Park Rotary, and 25% each Daybreak Rotary and Camrose Rotary. Tony said there are some surplus funds that could be used, plus a portion of the Rotary Gala program could be dedicated to raising funds, awareness and volunteers. There are also upcoming expenses in Belize and the Tanzania. The Stop Hunger Now project would be unbudgeted funds. 
 
NOTICE OF MOTION: "that the Rotary Club of Camrose participate in the Stop Hunger Now project in conjunction with the Sherwood Park and Camrose Daybreak Rotary clubs in May 2016." Motion BY Sheila. Seconded by Roy. The vote will be held in November 9th.
 
 
Rotary Gala meeting - Thursday November 12th at 730am.
 
Wheelchair work party - Friday November 6th at 10 am at the Brick

-library opened November 19, 1919
-current building is the library's this location and they are looking for a new facility 
-currently almost 20,000 people are served annually they book loans, media and programming 
-focusing on youth literacy and adult programming

- Camrose Public Library offers many programs for people of all ages. Their current groupings are

Recently converted old book sale room into The Bunker - a new safe place for the Camrose LGBTQ community. 
-October the library accepted food bank donations in lieu of late fines. 
-Library will continue to be the "Community Living Room" 
-New 3M Cloud library provides digital downloads of library materials and they have a number of preloaded genre-specific e-readers. 
-Library has a growing wish list for a new facility where there is more space for programs and not just books. 
 
President Tony thanked Nicole and Lisa for their presentation and the club showed they're appreciation by donating 50 doses of polio vaccine through the Polio Plus program.
