Moved to the Henderson’s this week, now playing Yahtzee rather than crib. New semester at school means new classes, and new classmates. Playing volleyball at the Cadet sports day was fun. The Maskwacis cadets taught some Cree sign language. Maci sees a need for a universal sign language as the Cree and Portuguese are quite different.
Announcements:
Cadet sports day was well attended by air, army, sea and Maskwacis cadets. A fun day we supported with transportation for the Maskwacis cadets and food for all.

Celebration Gala – Tony sent an email about silent auction donations and has ask letters available. Dan Mac has tickets, still $100 with partial tax receipting. He will be passing them to Tyler for distribution so get them now for a 2 week headstart
50/50 will be not be included in the meal cost starting in March. Bring $1 or more starting then to purchase

Classification Talk – Darcy:
Darcy was born and raised in Wetaskiwin until 1998 when his dad was transferred to Red Deer. Darcy decided to take the theatre program but ended up cooking to pay the bills. A move to Saskatoon to try new things led to exposure to the Society for Creative Anacronism, a pursuit he follows to this day. He focuses on the Imperial Roman period of the Middle Ages – war, clothing, feasts, music, etc. His dad’s failing health led to a move to Camrose for all and Darcy moving in to provide some care. There is lots of family here as his mom is from the Edberg area.
Cooking at the Irish Pub, Norsemen Inn, playing in the McSeamus Band filled his time. He met his wife playing a St Patrick ‘s Day gig. He was off to Red Deer again to pursue the music program. It wasn’t long before he realized that being a chef or a musician wasn’t the most gainful employment until you are well known. Encouraged by a master craftsman he became a luthier making guitars – another struggling art pursuit. Taking a position at a lumber yard and dealing with a number of work incidents he realized he had an aptitude for first aid. After schooling for an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Alberta Health soon dropped EMRs from ambulances so he pursued work in the oilfield as Radar Medical. When his son didn’t recognize him on a return from a shift he knew he had to spend more time with family.
Today, Darcy is a sales representative for the Camrose Canadian, is building his First Aid training company and is enjoying family. He is using his luthier experience to make medieval period instruments.
Classification Talk – Sheila:
Sheila was born in Edmonton and grew up in Manitoba, mainly Brandon. She married, had 3 children, then took Business Administration in the Pas. Working at Beaver Lumber she moved from the office to Shipping/Receiving, to Flooring, to Kitchens during a 6 or so year period seeing the transition to Home Hardware. Disenchanted with the environment in the Pas she moved with her children to Camrose.
For 3½ years from 2004 she worked at Interiors on Main during which time she met her current husband, Darren. They started a design business by appointment in the Merchants building. About 2 years later Nufloors was building and had a space available. Having worked with Nufloors over the years and feeling ready for a storefront they made the move. Beginning to End Kitchen and Bath is now close to 5 years there and they see the changes from a dealer representing a cabinet line ( whose service declined after a takeover) to a company providing project management, room and cabinet design, building cabinets (in the Ohaton Auto Shoppe building) and installing cabinets.
Sheila is happy to have her 5 grandchildren in Camrose.
