This week, in addition to our Annual General Meeting, we welcome Pastor Brian Krushel of the Camrose Church of God who delivered a Christmas Message.
 
The Buzz – December 14, 2015
 
President Tony opened the meeting at 12:10pm and welcomed a number of guests including prospective members  John McShane, Les Parsons, and returning members Ted Gillespie (transferring membership from Wetaskiwin) and Darcy Posien (returning after 6 month absence), and Nick Beach – GM of the Lougheed Performing Arts Centre.
Today members brought cash and food donations for the food bank. ($350 in cash was raised, plus cans and packaged food)
Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation donation. Due to the time sensitive nature of the intent to make a donation to the SCH Foundation, the following two motions were made:
MOTION: That the club’s policy of the requirement of a notice of motion for club expenditures in  excess of $500 be waived in order to make a donation to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Motion by Ray Hook. Seconded by David Taylor
Passed unanimously
 
MOTION: That a $1,500 donation be made to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Announcements
•Ray Hook reported on the Rotary Youth Leadership Canoe Trip
                -next year’s trip will be May 19 to 25
                -Rotary mentor/volunteer needed to go on the trip
                -may be a need to expand where the student participants come from (currently PACE), if enough students cannot be found to participate
                -representatives will be coming to the April 4 meeting to discuss the trip with the club
                -trip for Rotary Youth Exchange Students will be June 11 to 20.
 
•Friendship Exchange with Austrailia will take place in our district May 25 to 28.
 
•Rotary Cares Raffle – cash for about 50 tickets has been returned to Lou, and she is hoping that the sales will accelerate into Christmas, leaving few tickets to sell in January.  The first draw of the 2016 raffle is on Monday January 25.

Guest Speaker
Pastor Brian Krushel of the Camrose  Church of God presented a thoughtful Christmas message – here is the video of his message to our members.
 
 
 
 
President Tony thanked Pastor Brian for is message, which helped bring members into the fold of how Christmas comes to impact us and others in many ways.
 
Cancelled meetings – because of the Christmas break, the next two weeks of meetings (December 21 and 28th) are both cancelled. We will be meeting again on January 4.
 
January 11 meeting – this will be our first evening meeting, where we will have a lively discussion featuring “The Merits of Scotch vs The Merits of Wine” where David Samm and David Francoeur will face off in a spirited and well-aged debate. Members are encouraged to invite friends and colleagues to attend this meeting.
 
Rotary Cares raffle – the winner of the December draw is Lorne Ferguson, who wins $1,000 CASH. Thanks to all the 2015 winners.
 
50/50 draw – Grant Burgess drew the 3 of Diamonds, and missed out on drawing the winning 3 of Diamonds. The draw carries over to next week.
 
Next Meeting – Monday January 4th, 2016 in the Regal II ballroom of the Best Western Plus Camrose Resort Casino.
