This Week's Speaker - Brenda Mott
Sock Kit Club Project
Roll up your sleeves! ScrapsKC is coming to the Shawnee Mission Rotary Club to lead us in a service project! As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit creative reuse center and retail store, Scraps KC inspires creativity in art and education, positively impacts the environment and provides hope for the homeless. ScrapsKC Executive Director Brenda Mott will speak to us about the history and mission of the organization. Meanwhile, our club members work to assemble "sock kits" with items that can be useful to people experiencing homelessness. Each club member will be encouraged to take his or her sock away following the meeting, to provide to someone they see in the community who could use the materials. Make sure to attend, so we can start 2020 strong with this group service initiative!

Brenda Mott's biography is on the press page of Scraps KC

Member Brief - Barbara (Barb) Jones
Rev. Jones on Promotion Sunday at First Christian Church, Gulfport, MS
May 2015

Barb Jones returned home in 2015 as the newly retired Executive Regional Minister of the Great River Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  Located in Little Rock, AR, Jones saw to the needs of clergy and congregations in AR, LA and MS and represented them throughout the denomination.  She was the third woman to serve as a Regional Minister in the history of the church, and at the time of retirement, the most tenured female executive in regional or general ministries of the church. After a wild and wooly, deeply meaningful and entirely fulfilling ministry from 1976 - 2015, it was time to FOCUS on family. She downsized and moved to the mother-in-law apartment in her parents home and continues to help them age in place. Grandma Barb also needed to free up time for Austin (9), Tyler (7), Kendall (5); Rilee (7), Makenzie (4); Ryder (9) and Evie (7).
Camping in Colorado, kayaking in Kansas, cruising the Caribbean and all manner of outdoor activities kept Barb grounded as she raised 3 kids, saw them through college, careers and marriages. Those three and their spouses are the parents of the grandchildren. She and son Kris hiked to the top of Mt. Ranier, Kim accompanied her on a gift Mediterranean Cruise, and Kenny is her continual source for orthopedic guidance. Barb grew up in Overland Park, graduated from Shawnee Mission South, Ottawa University, Emory's School of Theology, and Capella University with a Nonprofit Management degree in 2017.
Rotarian in Club 99 (LR,AR) from 1995 through around 2007, she joined SMKS Rotary in January 2016.
