John Boyd Martin is an established internationally known portrait artist who has lived in the KC Metro area for many decades - the last several in the Mission area. He was born in 1936 and grew up in Ottawa, Kansas. After graduation from The University of Kansas in 1959, John spent many successful years in the graphics design and illustration business in Kansas City. But in 1986 he decided to finally follow his first passion - portraiture - full time. Since then, his many and diverse commissions can be found in cities throughout the world. Notably in Kansas City, many people, perhaps even unaware of the identity of the local artist, have seen his life-like portraits in the Kansas City Royals Hall of Fame and the Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame. Mr. Martin has also created murals with comprehensive historical perspective in Allen Fieldhouse and the Alumni Center on the campus of the University of Kansas. |
