The Pendergast Era
Jason Roe is the digital history specialist at the Kansas City Public Library, and content manager and editor for the website, The Pendergast Years: Kansas City in the Jazz Age and Great Depression. With Diane Mutti Burke and John Herron, he co-edited the book, Wide-Open Town: Kansas City in the Pendergast Era (University Press of Kansas, 2018), winner of the 2019 Book Award from the Missouri Conference on History. He is author of the popular column, “This Week in Kansas City History” and content manager and editor for the website, Civil War on the Western Border: The Missouri-Kansas Conflict, 1854-1865, which won the Roy Rosenzweig Prize for Innovation in Digital History from the American Historical Association, in addition to awards from the Western History Association, the Society of Civil War Historians, and the American Association for State and Local History. Prior to joining the Library, he earned his Ph.D. in American history from the University of Kansas in May 2012.
