Despite the ominous forecast, the Bike Safety Rodeo was a success again this year. The 126 kids that came out, even with the rain (it did eventually stop), received new bike helmets, t-shirts, bike safety course, bike tune ups, carnival games, an agilities maze and the Shawnee Police Mobile Command Post. Thanks to Sarah Dent, numerous student groups at Shawnee Mission Northwest (including Student Council, National Honor Society, Cougars Committed to the Community, Interact Club, Teachers Ed and the drum line), the Parks and Rec crew, plus more than 30 Rotarian volunteers, we were able to offer our community a memorable family friendly event to kick off Bike Month.
We were supported by Advent Health, Hy-Vee, McDonald’s, Trek, The DeBruce Foundation and Pegah’s Family Restaurant. Todd Schmidt and Dream Seed Ventures donated the Trek bike for the give away, won by Aimy Patel. Extra special thanks to Emcee, Tim Deves, Co-Chair, Patrick Moltane, all our volunteers who worked double shifts and Tonya Lecuru who took the lead - and did an amazing job!
