About Our Club

The Rotary Club of Salisbury, Maryland was chartered in March 1920 with 25 members and it is the oldest service organization south of Wilmington, Delaware on the Delmarva Peninsula.

With nearly 90 members, who we call People of Action because of their involvement with the community, we meet nearly weekly at our Rotary Scout and Community Center.  Our Thursday evening dinner meetings feature top notch speakers following fellowship and club business.  In our 2026-2027 Rotary year, we have monthly Special Events that are on-site or off-site, but do not include speakers.  They involve fun and fellowship.

In addition to our weekly meetings, we are involved in many activities that benefit different segments of our community.  They include a late summer Golf Event to raise money to aid a myriad of community assistance groups, distrbution of dictionaries to third grade students, building wheelchair ramps, helping renovate and maintain the Christian Shelter, raising money at the end of the year through bell ringing for the Salvation Army, displaying hundreds of large American flags to raise money to aid military veteran assistance groups, delivering thousands of Meals on Wheels, supporting several youth scout groups, and quite a few other activities.

2026-2027 Special Events

In addition to our regular Thursday evening meetings with speakers, we occasionally have what we call special events that may be at our Rotary Scout and Community Center or at another location.  Here is the schedule for the remaining of our 2026-2027 Rotary year.

November 19    Thanksgiving Feast at the Rotary Scout and Community Center

December 17    Holiday Dinner at the Evolution Craft Brewing Company in Salisbury

January 21    Chili Cookoff at the Rotary Scout and Community Center

February 11    Valentine's Day Dinner at Sugar Water Restuarant in Princess Anne 

March 11    Seafood Boil Dinner at the Rotary Scout and Community Center

April 1    Italian Night Dinner at the Rotary Scout and Community Center

2025-2026 Committee Chairs Recognized

The Three-Point Initiative Committee, chaired by Robins Evans and the absent Barbara Leonard, with help from  Gus Lebois, Craig Booth, BJ Summers, and AB Brown, selected the recipients of club money to aid organizations that benefit youngsters in our community.

One of the most important committees is the Program and Speakers Committee co-chaired by George Whitehead and Phil Whitman with able assistance provided by Darryl Nixon, Dick Meeks, and the absent John Rankin.

Headed by Robin Evans, the Meals on Wheels group distributes thousands of meals per year.

One important new project in the 2025-2026 Rotary year was the effort to infuse cash and materials into a new hospital in the east African nation of Tanzania.  Tanzania Project co-chairs Kathleen McLain and John Hall are shown with club president Chris Peek.

Making arrangements for food was the responsibility of the Meals Set-Up and Scheduling Commitee chaired by John Aukward.

Mike Hickson represented the guys, including the absent chair Greg Ferrier, who helped prepare the buffet line, utensils and plates for our weekly meals and handle the cleanup afterwards.  Kudos to the Set-Up/Clean-Up Committee.

Leading the Scholarship Committee was Robin Evans who was aided by Dick Meeks and BJ Summers.

The Special Events Committee planned and executed other-than-normal Thursday evening meeting.  Chris Layton, in the center, was a co-chair along with Kurt Schuster.  Commitee members included Phil Whitman, Bob Dodd and Susie Dodd, Gus Lebois, Hank Engster, and Bill Cropper.

The Flags for Heroes Committee was headed again by Audrey Orr with major assistance by Gus Lebois and Chris Layton along with nearly a dozen other club members who installed and removed the hundreds of large American Flags at Wor-Wic Community College.

Again this year, AB Brown headed the Dictionary Project Committee that distributed about 1,500 dictionaries to Wicomico County third grade students.  Helping were Steve Capelli and Robins Evans, along with other club members.

Kathleen McLain again chaired the Club History Memory Book Commitee while serving as club photographer.

The Four-Way Test Committee was chaired by Luanne Dashield, in the center, with help from Bill Satterfield and BJ Summers.

The Bar Committee, chaired by AB Brown, coordinates the procurement and operation of alcoholic sales during our meetings.  Serving with AB as barkeeps were Steve Capelli and Terry Greenwood.

Hugh Livingston chaired the Techology Committee that allowed us to purchase and install first class sound and video systems.  Hugh also served as the liason for the Scout Troops we sponsor and host at the Rotary Scout and Community Center

Rocky Burnett chaired the Opening Ceremony Invocation Coordination group.

Golf Committee chairman Bill Satterfield led a group aided by BJ Summers and Hank Engster, along with the absent Gina Hawes and Ernie Colburn.
