We heard tonight from Salisbury University's Dr. Jennifer Nyland about the Wicomico River Creekwatchers program. This is a volunteer effort to monitor local waterways' water quality and to share data with the local community in an effort to improve water quality.
Dr. Nyland said keys to the effort are Advocacy, Science, Education, and Outreach. Measurements are made for pH, salinity, temperature, nutrients, and fecal matter. She said the report for 2024 measurements shows both encouraging progress and ongoing challenges "shaped by pressures of climate change and local conditions."
Another interesting speaker at one of our almost weekly meetings.
