Tonight, members of the Rotary Club of Salisbury heard from long-time news industry person Joe Carmean about the news business at WMDT television.
Mr. Carmean, with decades of newspaper and television work in our area, joined WMDT as news director nearly a year ago and has worked tirelessly to implement the station's trademarked Because Local Matters theme. He mentioned that the Internet killed newspapers and that is why he moved into television. He has focused on technical improvements to the station's news programs, revamped the format of the news broadcasts, worked to improve the balance of coverage so as not to be biased for or against any cause or political philosophy, and changed personnel. As a result. he said ratings are up and the station has received many nominations for news coverage.
