History of Rotary Club of Duncanville
In April 1982, businessman and entrepreneur Clifton Boyd was elected Mayor of Duncanville. At the time, he was a member of the Red Bird Rotary Club, which is now known as the Rotary Club of DeSoto.
A few months after being elected to his new office, Cliff felt strongly that the city of Duncanville should have its own Rotary Club. The growing needs and changes of the community shaped his vision. He looked to the Rotary District to help him charter a local Club. And with the assistance of Doyle McKinney, designated by the District Governor, to assist in this endeavor, the two organized the Rotary Club of Duncanville. It was officially recognized by Rotary International as a charter club on August 4, 1983.
Cliff and Mr. McKinney met with 33 other business and community leaders of Duncanville, and together this enthusiastic group formed as the first Charter Members.
The first organizational meeting was held at Denny's, which used to be at the corner of Cockrell Hill and Interstate 20.
Three Charter Members remain active in the Club and in our community: Cliff Boyd, John Davis, and Jiten Shah.
