Marlou Wegener - Manager of community Relations at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas and the Chief Operating Officer of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation
 
 Marlou Wegener, born and raised in northwest Missouri, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Relations from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.  She and her family have made Kansas their home for twenty-eight years.

Marlou is employed with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) as the manager of community relations and the chief operating officer of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation.  She has primary responsibility for researching, developing and implementing corporate community relations projects. Marlou is also responsible for the company’s corporate giving program, the administration of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation, the annual United Way campaign and the employee volunteerism activities.

Marlou currently serves as the board president for the YWCA of Topeka, and vice president for the Oral Health Kansas board of directors.  She also serves on the boards of Easter Seals Capper Foundation and Topeka South Rotary. Marlou represents the company on a variety of community planning committees such as the United Way of Greater Topeka Community Impact Council, Community Blood Center Advisory Council, the Kansas Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free workgroup and the Healthy Kansas Schools Advisory Council.

Marlou was awarded the 2008 Outstanding Volunteer of the Year for Easter Seals Capper Foundation and was named the 2007 Communicator of the Year by the International Association of Business Communicators. Marlou is a graduate of the 1999 Leadership Greater Topeka class and the Oral Health Kansas Dental Champions Leadership Program in 2006. Marlou has been a company honoree for the YWCA Women of Excellence program. Other community and professional organizations that Marlou is a member of are Topeka South Rotary and the International Association of Business Communicators.

Marlou also was a member of the Leadership Kansas 2010 program.

Marlou is married and has three children and two grandsons, and enjoys reading and spectating college basketball games in her spare time.
