Kimberly N. Gronniger - Manager, Consumer Services at Westar Energy
Kim Gronniger, manager of consumer services for Westar Energy, oversees a team that coordinates consumer education and community alliances to promote energy efficiency for planet preservation and power plant postponement. During her career, she has worked as a reporter for the Tulsa Daily Business Journal and served as publications editor for Security Benefit, public relations manager for Goodyear, vice president and director of marketing and communications for FHLB Topeka, senior director of corporate communications for Westar Energy, vice president for Fleishman-Hillard responsible for the SBC Kansas account and administrative director of marketing and communications for St. Francis Health Center. Kim is a graduate of the Center for Creative Leadership, Leadership Topeka, the Oral Health Kansas Dental Champions Leadership Program, the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System and Leadership Academy and an Advisory Board fellow.
Kim earned a bachelor's degree in English from Washburn University and a master's degree in journalism from the University of Kansas. She has taught communications classes as an adjunct professor for Baker University and Washburn University. She has published two letters to the editor in the Wall Street Journal and articles in local, regional and national publications including Country Inns, Ingram's, KANSAS!, Kansas Alumni and Topeka magazine. Kim is a past president of the Christ the King School Council and a former member of the Hayden High School Board of Trustees. She currently serves as a board member for CASA of Shawnee County and the University of Kansas School of Architecture and Design Studio 804 program and as a member of the KTWU Advisory Council and the Topeka Zoo Marketing Committee. She is also the TSR Club Administration chair this year.
Kim has won two Washburn University creative writing contests and two Sunflower Publishing writing contests, including Topeka Magazine's Writer of the Year award in 2010. She was recognized by her peers as the 1994 International Association of Communicators Communicator of the Year and Kansas Children's Service League Topeka Community Council Volunteer of the Year in 2010.
She and her husband, Dan, an attorney with KVC Behavioral HealthCare, have two children, Joe and Catie, both of whom attend the University of Kansas. In her free time, Kim enjoys writing, reading, traveling, going to movies and socializing with family and friends.
